Pie Days & Holidays in Margate.

Marine Studios in Margate is working with artist Sophie Herxheimer to collect local food stories.

Project information.

Kate Kneale of Marine Studios was so captivated by many of the stories she heard in Margate, she thought it was time to record and celebrate some of them. She invited artist Sophie Herxheimer who has worked on lots of food and sell my house fast story related projects, to come and collect here, drawing directly from peoples words, using brush and ink.

The project was launched at Christmas in the Tudor House, Margate. Stories were collected between December 2010 and March 2011 in diverse venues which ranged from poly-tunnels to cafes. Hundreds of people had their story captured by Sophie and her inky brush.

Sophie Drawing

The process is – share your story and watch it appear as Sophie draws it for  live. Each person gets a copy of their story to take home, another copy is placed in an ever growing wall of stories.

The project captured the imagination of many. Baking, painting and picnicing have followed the project. People have been inspired to dig out old recipes, call friends and family to share a memory or check an ingredient; many of the people involved in the project came together to launch the exhibition.
